Jacob Benson

Jacob is a Litigation Associate in our Windsor office who prides himself on connecting with and understanding his clients. This has led to Jacob’s practice primarily focusing on dealing with problems between, and with, people – from Ontario Labour and Employment Law to Civil Litigation Law, Education & Public Law, Human Rights, and Estate Litigation. He also enjoys practicing in Estate Planning, drafting wills and powers of attorney, and has expanded his practice in Municipal Liability. In his practice, Jacob has appeared before a number of administrative tribunals, like the Landlord and Tenant Board, in addition to various levels of court, ranging from Small Claims Court, to the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Jacob Articled with the Firm in 2022-2023, prior to becoming licensed.

Before Articling, Jacob attended law school in the Dual JD program concurrently at both the University of Windsor and University of Detroit Mercy, earning both a Canadian and an American JD. Jacob particularly enjoys navigating the complexities of the intersection between interpersonal relationships and the law and while at law school, Jacob discovered that he truly enjoys advocacy. Among his law school achievements, he entered the Patrick A. Keenan Appellate Advocacy Competition and achieved the title of Co-Champion with his moot partner.

Outside of his law practice, Jacob tries to focus his free time on keeping an active body and mind, which means he enjoys travel, sports, reading, and writing. If given the opportunity, he loves to get away for a camping & hiking trip, or exploring the culture of other cities and countries (including trying different foods of all cuisines from around the world). When he's not indulging his explorer interest, Jacob is training to achieve his goal of running the only Marathon in the world that crosses international borders twice – the Detroit Free Press Marathon.
